Many of us hold a treasure trove of memories in our personal photo collections, more than can be neatly arranged in albums. Rudko’s new, innovative project titled Heirlooms will preserve your personal photographs by crafting them into a one-of-a-kind heirloom artwork of your pets, people, and/or places. Each piece will be a treasure of your family’s unique legacy, history, and memories, presented in a fresh and captivating way.

We are thrilled to present you an opportunity to commission well-known photography artist Joe Rudko to create a unique collage using your own family photographs. PDX CONTEMPORARY ART is now accepting commissions and is happy to be featuring Joe Rudko’s project at the 2024 Seattle Art Fair (July 25th — 28th) as the exclusive source for Heirlooms at the fair. If you are interested, please inquire via email ([email protected]) and we will send you the details on the process, price, and timeline.

Bio: Seattle artist Joe Rudko uses photo- graphy as a point of departure for exploring the perception of truth in the visual. By disassembling fixed images and creating new visual relationships with color and line, he invites us to reexamine how we author and interpret the experience of looking at photography. Rudko acknowledges the physical aspects of the objects with which he works by ripping, cutting, and folding surfaces. He then reacts to and extends the found material with paint, graphite, and photographic spotting pen. Through this collage process Rudko has developed a system of inquiry in which improvisations and conversations engage with raw materials, rendering interpretation vulnerable and unstable.
